XFCE doesnt have a display manager of its own.Hence we can use any other display managers like XDM, GDM, slim etc to use the login manager.

For some perspective: I have openSUSE Leap 15.1 KDE Plasma 5 installed on a 12-year old Dell XPS M1330 (Intel Core 2 Duo T8100, 4GB DDR2 667 MHz RAM, 320GB 5400rpm HDD). I still cannot believe how well it all works on such old hardware. This is one of the areas we cant tell you one option is better than the other, from dwm to Gnome. Personally, despite having a very powerful PC, I actually use LXQt. KDE is certainly an impressive project, and you can make it very beautiful. However, this can be a problem: because you can end up spending hours tinkering with it So the question is: Is this a workproductivity tool or your own computer you just want to have fun with If it the former, I can strongly recommend LXQt. Once setup you wont fiddle with it or spend ages putting fancy themes on it. I love that all of the matching applications are also super lightweight yet efficient. WMs are just for managing windows - any configuration will be done via text files and the like. Its highly configurable and nearly everything can be navigated via keyboard shortcuts. But, as many others have said, DEs and WMs are very personal things, and depend heavily on how you like to work, so you need to try out a few until you find one that feels right.
